Having served three tours in Iraq, I will say that I believe that a good thing was done in Iraq.  The nation no longer has to live in constant fear of its own government.  In the more rural areas, the population knows their neighbors and are able to combat terrorists in the area.  The cities are...well cities, and teeming with people.

the old Iraq was a police state where neighbors were told to inform on neighbors for the slightest infraction real or imaginary (or to simply settle a grudge).  The population is generally happier in Iraq (at least the people I spoke and lived with).

Afghanistan, now that bin Laden is dead, I say we're done, but it's looking like I'll be able to judge that for myself soon.
