On December 21, 2010 the United States Census Bureau released its official apportionment results for U.S. congressional representation. Those changes took effect for the 2012 U.S. general election last week.
The Citizens Party has begun making changes to our district groups to reflect the reappointment changes. For example, Texas gained four congressional seats and thus the Citizens Party will create 4 new Texas district groups to reflect those changes. Ohio lost 2 congressional seats and thus 2 Citizens Party Ohio district groups (Ohio -17 & Ohio -18) will be closed and deleted.
The following states have been impacted:
Texas +4
Florida +2
Arizona +1
Georgia +1
Nevada +1
South Carolina +1
Utah +1
Washington +1
Illinois -1
Iowa -1
Louisiana -1
Massachusetts -1
Michigan -1
Missouri -1
New Jersey -1
Pennsylvania -1
New York -2
Ohio -2
States that added congressional seats had a growing population and have gained importance in the electoral college.
Comment
Our 12 new district groups have been created. We will add info. and a map to each of the new groups in the near future.
We have finished deleting the district groups that were eliminated due to congressional apportionment.
One group (district) was eliminated in each of the following states; Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Two groups (districts) were eliminated in both New York and Ohio.
We hope to finish creating the new district groups within the next few days.
