The aggregate interest rate is currently just above 3% annually. While the money is "spent" it is also paid back with interest. Federal debt level and deficit are also of great concern in the ability to pay back this debt.

In order to save social security, a program that I think is very necessary and has worked well, some changes need to occur in order to remain solvent.

Increase tax revenue coming in with a number of methods. An increase in minimum wage also increases the tax revenue as its a percent of wage, increase in the tax rate, increase the income cap on employee and/or employer taxable wages. increase the rate of return on investments by including State and Municipal Bond issues that are at a higher interest rate than current investments. These should be no lesser than AA+ or AA rated.

There have been a number of proposals over the years but little recent actions. https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/solvency/index.html

I believe this should be one of the main issues with all our elected officials at the Federal Level to take action.

I've read the platforms in Wisconsin for the following Parties, Amercian First, Libertarian, Reform, Unity, Constitution, Natural Law, Republican, Democratic, Wisconsin Green, Progressive Dane, Socialist and Wisconsin Partiot. Each fails on a major issue with me. Progressive Dane is a local county party that does not apply however I'd consider it if I was in that county.

Reading the Citizens Party Platform I can agree with nearly all of it and it matches my beliefs on the major issues.

I'd like to be part of bringing the Citizens Party Platform forward in Wisconsin and our Nation.

Hello,

I have been a political activist for over 6 years, since being laid off when my I.T. department was phased out at a major university in 2006 (I was the MIS). Before that and during I took 2 dozen economics courses, wrote over 200 articles, which led to my being the Economics Editor at opednews.com, a leading progressive news blog with 250k-800k unique visitors a month. I also blog for the Huffington Post, Global Economic Intersection and Daily Kos.

From April 2010 until this month, I was president of the local chapter of Common Ground USA, a Georgist activist group seeking land tax reform based on Henry George's best-selling opus, Progress and Poverty. I have also been the NY Coordinator for the Public Banking Institute from 2011 until present.

My articles were anthologized at the request of a small publisher and released as a book, America is Not Broke! Four Multi-Trillion Dollar Paths to a Thriving America. You may find more about the book, as well as see/hear some of the 17 TV/Radio shows I was on recently to publicize the ideas in it this past fall, on this website: americaisnotbroke.net.

A more general list of my TV/Radio/Classroom presentations etc. may be found here: http://newthinking.blogspot.com/

Like many of you, I am dissatisfied to downright alarmed and disgusted by many of the candidates running for president currently, though at least one of them, Bernie Sanders, endorses one of the 4 key platforms of my book: Public Banking. The others are:

1. Sovereign Money, aka debt-free money.

2. Land Value Taxation - the Henry George Single Tax

3. Government Asset Reform - basically auditing and then repurposing the 10s of trillions in investable assets the governments of the country already have.

Our country is on an unsustainable economic course. I believe that without the tried and proven ideas I lay out in my book and articles, there is no way to create a just, sustainable, and growing economy that works for everyone.

I agree with 90% of the Citizen's Party platform (well, nobody's perfect!) and would like to add to it.

I would consider running as YOUR candidate, but no other party's endorsement interests me or aligns as closely to my beliefs and values.

My name is Taylor Watts, and I have a passion to help my planet heal. I want our government representatives to represent the people, not the wealthy corporations that contribute the most money. I want the people of the USA to feel proud of their country and government. I will appreciate any feedback up or down so I can learn to be a better advocate for our country, the people in it, and all living creatures.

The Gulf of Mexico is a beautiful body of water that has dolphins, whales, shrimp, bonefish, and an abundance of living creatures. Many varieties of birds make their home on the coast and are an important part of the ecosystem. The Laughing Gull eats fish, shellfish and crabs that were contaminated because of oil spills. The brown pelican is one of the only two pelican species which feeds by diving into the water.

The 150 year old sea turtles were around before the BP and Valdez oil spills and we hope they will be around long after, The fishing industry is more than a way to make money. It is a rich culture that has been around longer than the oldest sea turtle. A way of life has been created around the lives of fishermen and women. Because of greed and corruption oil has threatened everything I mentioned above from the shrimp to the people and their way of life. This is a communal industry and represents the very fabric of American life.

Multinationals invading these communities with their dollars are a threat to the whole, even their employees, when they cannot respect the surrounding area in which they operate. Obviously, this spill was the result of a money decision-one that has done more damage than any money can ever account for. Paying a fine doesn't cut it. We all know these decisions are all weighed out in the boardrooms of these companies. To let our corporations operate this way is a travesty. If we give these lands and seas to use for mere profit, then these companies should be held to a very high standard. Instead, they pay a fine and it's business as usual, a temporary sedative is given so the public feels the company is very concerned, and then it's back to business as usual. Then they complain about “regulations.” I will list below some of the impact of that decision and let it weigh on your conscience Mr. Board Member. This is not the “American Dream.” This is the few over the many. It is the theft of human and civil liberties of all people.

The BP oil spill is still harming the ocean and all living things that are linked to it. This is what greed does. Imagine if it was solar or wind, then the cottage industries would still be thriving, the peoples' health and welfare would be much better and tourism would be alive and well When capitalism is practiced without humanitarian ethics or morals, the people who seek profit over human life have found themselves in wars and eventually falling to the rock bottom of their lives, if they don't die first. Think about the people who made money off of slavery then went to war in the USA and then lost that war. Slavery was about people putting profit before human life and many died because of their greed. Is it logical? Or is greed a disease? Is greed in our DNA? Like alcoholism? Some have the disease and some have strong humanitarian ethics and morals and use it like preventive medicine against Greed. You decide. Is it logical to have capitalism without humanitarian ethics or morals? Who is the greater for posterity's sake?

Here is some information to help you decide. It is about the damage oil spills do to our ocean. I know there are reasons for having oil wells, but that is not the issue. The question is “Is it logical to have capitalism without humanitarian ethics or morals? Is it logical to pollute our oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds?

Long Term Impacts (This information is from the National Wildlife Federation’s web site)

“Though oil is no longer readily visible on the surface, it isn’t gone. Scientists have found significant amounts on the Gulf floor, and the oil that has already washed into wetlands and beaches will likely persist for years. We likely will not see the full extent of impacts for many years, which makes creating and implementing successful restoration plans a serious challenge.”

Sick Dolphins - As part of the official investigation into impacts of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, a team of scientists did comprehensive physicals on dolphins in Barataria Bay in 2011, a heavily-oiled area of the Louisiana coast. Nearly half the dolphins studied were very ill; 17 percent of the dolphins were not expected to survive.

Sea Turtles Stranding at 5x Normal Rates - Data from the Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network indicates that between 1986 and 2009, an average of nearly 100 sea turtles were found stranded annually in the oil spill area. Since the spill, each year roughly 500 sea turtles have been found stranded, most of which were the very endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles.

Unbalanced Food Web - The Gulf oil disaster hit at the peak breeding season for many species of fish and wildlife. The oil’s toxicity may have hit egg and larval organisms immediately, diminishing or even wiping out those age classes. Without these generations, population dips and cascading food web effects may become evident in the years ahead.

Decreased Fish and Wildlife Populations - Scientists will be watching fluctuations in wildlife populations for years to come. It wasn't until four years after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil disaster that the herring population collapsed. Twenty years later, it is still has not recovered.

Decline in Recreation - The Gulf Coast states rely heavily on commercial fishing and outdoor recreation to sustain their local economies. According to NOAA, commercial fisheries brought in $659 million in shellfish and finfish in 2008, and just over 3 million people took recreational fishing trips in the Gulf that year. After the spill, recreational fishing from the Atchafalaya Delta to Mobile Bay was shut down from May to August, and state park closures dealt a serious blow to the parks' summer revenue.

Impacts of the Gulf oil disaster will be unfolding for years, and they will take even longer to understand. After the Gulf oil disaster, Find out how 14 Gulf species are faring in the wake of the disaster

Scientists are still assessing the effects of the estimated 170 million gallons of oil that flooded into the Gulf after the explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig.
More than 8,000 birds, sea turtles, and marine mammals were found injured or dead in the six months after the spill.

Too bad Congress actually doing something is nearly as bad as Congress doing nothing. I’m referring to the ‘omnibill’, the poor excuse for a budget that was passed to stave off yet another government shutdown. It’s not just the earmarks and other ‘pork’ that gets line-item added into such legislation, It’s the fact that seismic policy shifts that have no bearing on what is actually being passed are hidden into these massive funding bills. Two of the most blatant policy adjustments that have no place in a document detailing government spending are new donation limits on campaign finance and the roll-back of Dodd-Frank enforcement in regards to credit-swaps and derivatives.

Government funds shouldn’t be used in campaign finance to begin with, so why on page 1,599 of a 1,603 page government spending document are limits (or the lack thereof) for campaign finance even addressed! A New York Times article summarized the impact of the changes perfectly: “A donor who gave the maximum $32,400 this year to the Democratic National Committee or Republican National Committee would be able to donate another $291,600 on top of that to the party’s additional arms -- a total of $324,000, ten times the current limit. In a two-year election cycle, a couple could give $1,296,000 to a party's various accounts.”[i] This little add-on at the end of a massive document that had little time for review basically guts campaign finance rules that were established back in 2002 in a separate bill authored by Senators McCain and Feingold.

After reading up on the legalese behind credit-swaps and derivatives in an attempt to arrive at a sensible layman’s explanation of these complex murky investments…, I gave up and decided on a different tact. The FDIC was established in 1933 as a response to the numerous bank failures of the time. It was established to “promote confidence and stability in the nation’s banking system.” [ii] The FDIC covers deposits in the following accounts: Checking, NOW (Negotiable Order Withdrawal), Savings, Money Market Deposit Accounts (MMDA), CD’s and other time deposits. It does not cover Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, Life insurance, Annuities, Municipal securities, or Safe deposit boxes. Basically the FDIC covers money someone sets aside for safekeeping; it does not cover money someone is trying to use to make more money with. It almost goes without saying, but nobody uses credit swaps and derivatives for the safekeeping of money. The only reason anyone dabbles in such obscure, complex, and risky financial instruments is because there are large amounts of money to be made. In no way, shape or form should the FDIC be using taxpayer money to backstop such murky ill-defined investments, but that is exactly what Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas slipped into this all-encompassing budget bill. To top it off, he didn’t even write it, he just copied. “Citigroup’s recommendations were reflected in more than 70 lines of the House committee’s 85-lines. Two crucial paragraphs, prepared by Citigroup in conjunction with other Wall Street banks, were copied nearly word for word.”[iii] Basically, a subsection of 85 lines in a 1,603 page document essentially destroyed a significant part of the separate Dodd-Frank legislation that was passed in 2010 as a response to protect American citizens from having to bail out ‘too big to fail’ banks that epically fail to manage their finances effectively in the future.

Congress and our government have many significant problems but one thing that should be fixed, that will be a step in the right direction towards solving several other issues, would be to require different policies be addressed in their own respective bills. This would allow more visibility and clarity on important issues and would also limit hidden lobbyist agendas from sneaking in legislation that has unforeseen consequences. Governing a large powerful country such as ours is already a complex enough endeavor without combining disparate issues. We need a ‘Let’s just talk about what we’re actually talking about’ law to help achieve a sense of clarity and focus.

One of corporate America's biggest gripes is the relatively high tax rates on business here in America (35%).
One of corporate America's biggest gripes is the relatively high tax rates on business here in America (35%). (NY Times)

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/25/business/economy/25tax.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

I think we should just throw out the whole corporate tax structure, kitchen sink and all and start with something new. Corporate taxes in their current form are riddled with years of meddling and poor attempts at trying to direct economic/environmental policies by affecting companies’ bottom lines.

My suggestion is that we replace the current system with a VAT based system. We then tie the amount a company is required to pay to their earnings reports. Companies, especially shareholder based ones, aren’t going to want to meddle with the numbers that inspire investor confidence on Wall Street.

I recommend this VAT system be based on a flat tax % and be calculated off gross sales. Many companies plow their earnings back into their business in order to expand and a tax rate that increases with earnings might dissuade companies from expanding/modernizing/becoming more efficient. A flat tax based on sales will also make calculating and forecasting taxes owed very easy, thereby reducing overhead on everything from tax professionals and lawyers to lobbyists.

I still believe there is a place for the government to offer monetary incentives to influence corporate decision-making on labor and environmental issues, but I think it should be completely separate from tax policy and the funding of government. Much in the same way that small towns ought not to base their budget on traffic tickets and fines, neither should our federal government budget be subject to how well (or poorly) a company is at meeting certain labor/environmental wickets.
In Defense of the Progressive Taxtag:www.votecitizens.org,2014-12-24:6348963:BlogPost:636432014-12-24T21:55:59.000ZSensible Sailorhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/SensibleSailor

One of the primary arguments against a progressive tax is that of wealth-transfer and the elements of communism/socialism that it brings up.

I still think a progressive earnings tax is the way to go. Bear with me for a minute and envision capitalism as a high stakes poker tournament.
One of the primary arguments against a progressive tax is that of wealth-transfer and the elements of communism/socialism that it brings up.

I still think a progressive earnings tax is the way to go. Bear with me for a minute and envision capitalism as a high stakes poker tournament. In the beginning all the players have the same buy-in, but as the games progress on various tables, there are winners and losers. The winners move up to the next table and the losers are now spectators. As the tournament continues, there are substantially larger winners as well as a steadily increasing group of those that are out of the game. Eventually we are left with a small core of excessively rich players battling it out for supremacy.

This is the natural progression of capitalism. It favors innovation, entrepreneurship, and pays exceedingly greater rewards. The problem is that the game must eventually end. At some point only a few people have the vast majority of the wealth and everyone else is on the outside looking in.

In order for this system to perpetuate, the players that have gotten knocked out need to be able to buy back in. We can either print more money and give it to those to get back in (fiat currency), The rich players at the top can loan it with interest to those at the bottom (inflation), or we can take a percentage from those at the top to give back to those at the bottom (wealth-transfer) so they can continue playing the poker game of capitalism. Our system currently does a combination of all three methods and I believe it takes a combination of all three to insure our system continues to function. We can bicker about the levels and percentages but that’s why I feel a progressive tax should be a part of our tax plan.
Citizenship - A New Definition and Meaning Thereof.tag:www.votecitizens.org,2014-12-06:6348963:BlogPost:630372014-12-06T05:46:37.000ZScolos Narbarsonhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/ScolosNarbarson

First I will try do a little background work, for the concept of “American Citizenship”, trying to start from a sensible starting point: The “Origin” Of American Citizenship.

It seems that American Citizenship, as unique functional social doctrine, began with the “Revolution” against the Royal Crown and Empire of England.

The doctrine of citizenship was truly born following the Declaration:

In the wake of the Declaration, citizenship of the United States, a previously unrecognized political construct, was born. While in the past “subjectship” defined one’s allegiance to the king, “the status of “American Citizen” was the creation of the Revolution. “In the words of Ramsay, Americans had, following the Revolution, “changed from subjects to citizens” and the “difference was immense.” Citizenship, in contrast with “Cokean Subjectship”, was not based on perpetual allegiance, but rather flowed from individual consent. This new status was created to “govern membership in a free society: republi- can citizenship ought to rest on consent; it ought to be uniform and without invidious* gradations; and it ought to confer equal rights.” 117

Abstract:

In his Essay “Original Citizenship”, Josh Blackman asks what the Constitution means when it refers to “citizen[s] of the United States.” Acknowledging the lack of guidance on the topic, Blackman looks to contemporary notions of citizenship, including the theories of birthright citizenship and “citizenship by election,” for help. In concluding that one could only become a citizen of the United States as of the Declaration of Independence, Blackman tracks early case law at critical points in the nation’s early history. He looks to treason cases, contested elections, and interpretations of Jay’s Treaty to determine that the only logical starting point for “original” citizenship must be the Declaration. Blackman’s piece is a much-needed contribution to a sparse area of scholarship and helps to lay the groundwork for future work on the implications of his findings.

Part I of this Essay unites the Constitutional Trinity, from our “unanimous Declaration,”

to the “Confederation and perpetual Union,”

to our “more perfect Union.”

Part II discusses the legal and theoretical doctrines of citizenship

as articulated by Lord Coke in Calvin’s Case and John Locke in his

Second Treatise on Government.

The continuity of the style “the United States of America” throughout these charters reflects the permanence of the sovereignty of this republic, despite changes in the form of governance. Throughout the early years of our union, a national community was formed—the United States of America—and in this national community resided “citizens of the United States.”

I thought that “Constitutional Trinity” was an interesting reference. Though I would not include the “Declaration of Independence” as a Constitution. I believe the “Third Constitution”, of our Nation, is coming.

Here, I will end my attempt at development of some pertinent background for the concept of “American Citizenship” and begin presenting my own ideas about this.

“New Notions For The Better Meanings and Applications Of American Citizenship”.

I begin by sharing with you the notion that there should be the designation of a foundational level for members of American Society. A “Base Member Level” from which all True American Citizens should endeavor to transcend and Evolve upward from. Hierarchal notions to be sure, but with the differences of “Earned” social recognition, instead of that which might be bestowed with birth, or one’s parents station in Life…or with wealth and power.

"Consumer Member” (C.M.)

I see this designation as the starting point for all members of American Society. One is born a “Consumer Member Of American Society”, or “naturalized” as one. We should not consider birthrights to include “True Citizenship”, which is best expressed in continuous socio/political participatory action and not mere entry by birth. Birthrights should declare the right to be here, to enjoy the right of lawful due process, to own property, to have the right to work in legal gainful employment and maybe the right to medical assistance and a certain level of education.

All of Us, are born as “Consumer Member”(CM). This is the status for Americans born here (and maybe “naturalized” as legal immigrants), but have not yet made the choice to register to vote.

In society the “CM” may work, or not work. They might live in alleys, under bridges, in make shift or well-organized camps, in apartments, condos or in houses they are buying, or trading for. They may attend church, or in other ways have religious or spiritual inclinations. What they all have in common is that they have not connected themselves to and become part of the American Governance Process.

By this disconnection, they possibly express a lack of important loyalty to the American Experiment and Dream; though many of them will declare their Love of Our Nation. Maybe they just don’t feel ready to take the first step into True Citizenship. They just have not yet come up with the character strength to rise above the national Consumer Member foundational level. They are not required, by Our Second National Constitution, to directly become part of the governance process. They can stay at the Consumer Member level, their whole lives, if they want.

They live as Individuals, sometimes law abiding, sometimes not. They form Friendships and Families and are devoted to them. They just don’t get the importance of participating, or being involved in the national, state, county, or community decision-making process. Instead of casting their vote for what they believe (based on what they know, or think they know about American Society and Culture) is Just and True, they complain about what has been decided by those few who use the Consumer Member’s low involvement in society, to further their own selfish agendas. They remain the “silent majority” and “game” America for their own personal gain. As to social and political cooperation for a Better America, they are impotent. They go with the flow.

While many “CM’s” manage to earn a living, even become rich, they lack the emotional and/or mental energy to even try to understand the complexities that attend the governance process. They consider such social involvement, as not worth the trouble, or “way over their heads” and lazily leave this vital aspect of American Culture to Others.

“Citizen”

There may come a time, in the lives of some (hopefully most) American Consumer Members, that they deem it in their best interest, to become more involved in the American Governance Process. They might suddenly think: “That it would be Better for More of Us, including “me”, to at least try to contribute the power of Our Collective Thoughts to what is best for America.” “It is time for me to do my part.” But, We need to be able to “care” enough to do this. Some will fake it. Some will pretend that they are invested in Our Nations Governance, but truly are only trying to better their own advantages in Our Society.

But, this is still Better than not being involved at all.

It is just my opinion, that We True Citizens should be Evolving away from the morally bankrupt political and economic processes, which have been done before…and still prevail today. Processes based on the abused concept of letting others make the decisions for you, for a few pragmatic reasons. Pragmatism that can be superceded by Higher Ideals and a Better Way of doing America...Being American.

American Citizenship should have more meaning attached to it than it has…more positive, symbolic, ideological and Moral structure attributed to the Individuals who embrace the status and prestige of it. If We The People can attain this new meaning, then We will have an important tool to make Our Nation Better. This is where it becomes important for Us to recognize the efforts and contributions of others. And this recognition can be the foundation for a “New Hierarchy” that reflects real achievements of Us, for Our Nation.

American Citizenship should become a beneficial hierarchal system that reflects levels and merits of Citizenship. All of Us enjoy being appreciated for special, or extra, effort and achievement. Each Citizenship level would have its own earned honorable status, that could be expressed with brand new words constructed for Our Language, that represents these levels.

It is in my mind that there are (or should be) different degrees of Citizenship expression. Recognized and appreciated by all levels of American Citizens…and Consumer Members; if they are capable.

These levels of Citizenship should be rewarded. The higher the attainment of “achievement status level”, the higher the “reward”…and recognition.

And We could find artistic ways to express this recognition. For this symbology We could bring forward certain ideas from the “old hierarchies” and make these even Better for Our Times.

I don’t have a clear idea as to how many levels of “American Citizenship Hierarchy” there should be. Maybe three would be Good.

Out of the Consumer Member level, (the first member level) will emerge those that, for one reason, or another, suddenly see the “light” and register to vote. Just registering to vote is not enough, these “Risers” will actually vote and become part of the vital governance process…adding to the Collective Strength of Evolving America. With repeated exposure to the electoral process and practice, these Risers will become Better at this process and more valuable to Our Nation.

And, by doing this, Truly Claim this level of upward social mobility. They will have become a higher earned social status, and will feel Good about themselves. By climbing to this second step in the New American Earned Citizen Hierarchy, they Earn the immediate reward (or should) of the “American Earned Guaranteed Income”; a basic income safety net that reassures and strengthens a True Citizen and provides additional incentive to become one.

This incentive would be especially attractive to the “homeless”, but We The People must be very diligent in making sure that Citizenship is practiced and not merely used for gain. There should be some well thought out and agreeable way of monitoring the activity of the different levels of Citizenship. Maybe some strong technology within a Citizen Institution that is ever on guard against corruptive influences in Our Society. “Eyes Of The People”, or some such.

From this first entry level to higher participation, two more steps can be taken that increases the strengths of American Governance.

All of these “Riser Steps” might look something like:

Citizenship Level 1 (Citizen) = Entered upon when registering to vote and voting. Vital to the governance process; Of The People, For The People and BY The People. Probably a majority of the American People will stay at this level. But with time, this level can become very adept at performing its Citizenship Duties. More and Better…a motto of the Evolutionary Social Process.

Citizenship Level 2 (DeCi) [ Des’ see] –

Referring to a Dedicated Citizen that goes somewhere beyond the voting commitment) in activities that enhance and strengthen the governance process. Campaigning for their representative choices, getting proposals on the ballot, presenting petitions to The People for signing, helping to run national web sites and facilities that reinforce the Direct Democracy Governance Process (or some other) etc.

Citizenship Level 3 (HiParDeCi – “High Participant Dedicated Citizens”) [Office and “Bench” Holders – Advisors – Civic, Departmental and Bureaucratic Service, Sheriffs and other Law Enforcement, Military Leadership; Public Servants as Leadership Cadre.] –

This is EARNED! It should not happen without hard work and Good Heart and Mind Devotion to Our Nation…and Us.

This “high” level of Citizenship, referring to those (preferably volunteers) that are comfortable in their social achievements in Life and have dedicated their selves and later Lives mostly to Public Service. Executing well the Will Of The People…the “New States Persons” Of Social Truth and Goodness, will leave the “Old Self Serving and Game Playing Politician” behind, as a dominant force in Our Culture.

Though the words, for these levels of Citizenship, sound somewhat Italian or Roman (and this bothers me a little because of the negative history of the Roman Empire), it might be better to “coin” brand new American words for these Citizenship levels. But, it IS American Tradition, for Better or worse, to kind of “echo” the Roman Culture. So, I will develop these levels, for the Better (as I see it), as they are and could be. Ultimately The American People will decide what these levels should be and what they are called.

Fairness and Hierarchy in True Citizenship

There will be some of Us, who believe that my ideas about Citizenship are “invidious” in one or both of the ways that are revealed in the below definition.

A lot of these Individuals will also resent the concept of “merit” and “meritocracy”. They struggle with the relationship between “earning” and “reward”. These are the same ones who try to avoid consequences for their decisions also…and feel entitled to get and have, without earning, anything that others have worked hard to “earn”. Maybe these are seeing something that I am failing to see.

But it seems to me that “Fairness”, in this case, is best served by rewarding extra, or above normal, Individual efforts to make something Better (Our Nation). This is called incentive to do Better. I see nothing wrong with this idea, but We must watch out for abuses of it… “taking it too far.” This “merit” and “reward” is, of course, available to all who can and will achieve it. Those that think they cannot do it, should find Good ways to do it, or be content with their lot. They do not have the right to try and disparage and deny True Merit and Reward for everyone. And if “reward” includes a recognition place in hierarchy that serves the interests of the Nation and it’s Citizenry, then that is a Good Thing.

All We have to do, is be very careful about the extending of “privileges”, to those that achieve more for their society than others. A Moral “Spirit of Basic and Mutualistic Equality”, added to a “Spirit Of Social Service” has to be maintained, for the sake of the Dynamic Balance in Our Culture.

Basically, let Us not fear “invidiousness”. We must turn toward and HONESTLY address, dissent to Our Ideas. We must find out the TRUTHFUL WHY of Our Differences. If Good is found on both sides, then beneficial compromises can be achieved. If there is “bad” on either, or both, sides of an issue, then it is Our Duty to reduce it, or eradicate it. This is part of the “Ideal Representative” and Direct Democracy Ways.

The “Merit” of the “Consumer Member” Base.

The “Consumer Member” base, of this new Citizenship notion for Our Nation, begins in Fairness. It automatically provides “Basic Rights” to everyone born in Our Sovereign Territory. It provides the basic support and tools needed to become More and Better.

We can give the basics for Citizen Success, but Citizenship itself should be earned.

My purpose in submitting these ideas here, is clarify and strengthen the “Citizens Party” social position and give it (in my opinion) a superior vanguard edge in useful moral concept for leadership in the governance of Our Nation.
Is it Time to Raise the Gasoline Tax?tag:www.votecitizens.org,2014-11-30:6348963:BlogPost:628202014-11-30T17:30:00.000ZCitizens Partyhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/Citizens_Party

We have several talented individuals willing to work on a design after the party gives them more feedback. The logo will be on our new websites and all party materials. If you have suggestions, please post them in the comments below.

We currently do not have a party symbol. The started the process in several past member surveys, but hadn't come to a conclusion. We started out with about 30 suggestions and after voting the top selections were American Elk, American Wild Horse, American Grey Wolf, a combination of a fist and a gadsten flag (kind of a combination of occupy wall street & the tea party), Dolphin, a symbol design using the words Citizens Party, several shield designs and several other options. Or if we want to be different, we can use no symbol. As long as we have a logo, we would be fine as well.

We would prefer you narrow down the current list of options, but you may make other suggestions. Just keep in mind that not everyone will like the final selection. Our previous member surveys were split evenly for several selections.

The party logo and symbol can be two totally different things. For example, the Democrats symbol is the donkey (or jackass as we prefer),

but the logo they currently use is just a D with a circle around it:

Please let us know your preferences, thoughts and suggestions. We may or may not use specific feedback from this blog to make a final decision. Also, we may or may not conduct a special member survey on these two issues before making a final selection.
Citizens Party Motto?tag:www.votecitizens.org,2014-11-03:6348963:BlogPost:615782014-11-03T23:29:19.000ZScolos Narbarsonhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/ScolosNarbarson

Currently, the Republicans claim to be the party of border security, while the Democrats claim to be the party of higher wages and better living standards for most. Until relatively recently, within my lifetime, wings of the Democratic Party actually championed all four ideals. While a liberal immigration policy, one that encourage people to come here for opportunity, has always been encouraged by many, illegal entrance into the country has not. Border security was seen by the most liberal Democrats as a way to lower crime in America's most at-risk neighborhoods torn apart by gang violence from illegally-smuggled weapons, as a way to ensure that employers paid decent wages to their workers, and as a means of fostering a civic virtue that could not be exploited by international corporations. Case and point: Cesar Chavez and Gene McCarthy

Throughout his life, Cesar Chavez crusaded for higher living standards for his fellow workers. He routinely organized the farm workers to strike for better wages, conditions, and treatment. A casual reader of US social history, one who has to rely on the media's tertiary sources because he's too busy working for a living to house himself and family, would be surprised to hear today that he staunchly opposed unenforced immigration laws until Reagan began encouraging illegal immigration as Governor of California. He would be even more surprised to hear that he was "persuaded" by Ronald Reagan and his supporters to change his tune, as Reagan would maintain close ties with United Fruit Company and its successors for his entire career, including his Presidency(this is another story.)

Gene McCarthy was the staunchest of liberals. If Barry Goldwater was Mr. Conservative, Gene McCarthy was certainly the closest thing to Mr. Liberal. He'd meet with Che Guevara to try to improve relations with hostile countries, and he'd co-sponsor the 1965 Immigration Act, which provided immigration opportunities to millions who'd previously been denied them. His philosophy was one of social welfare, diplomacy before war, higher taxes, and most significantly, opposition to illegal immigration. Horrified by the way corporations sneaked people, treated little better than peons, across our border to undercut workers, McCarthy advocated for border security throughout the rest of his political career.

By no means were these men perfect. Chavez would be persuaded by the Republicans to embrace illegal immigration and McCarthy would often let racist people infiltrate his organizations and derail his efforts, but its very important to point out that efforts to secure our borders fall thoroughly within America's liberal tradition of standing against corporate abuse and human trafficking. Furthermore, it is perfectly compatible with the desire to encourage immigration.

Since 1992, when Clinton(s) got McCarthy excluded from the debates to secure the nomination, border security has been shunned by most politicians of note. They somehow equate the desire for border security with bigotry and hostility to the world's struggling masses. The exact opposite is true: a secure American border provides more hope for Americans of all races and wealth inequality increases dramatically as companies use more and more illegal labor to pay substandard wages. Plus, a secure border in America helps Americans assist those struggling overseas and abroad.
WHAT THE HECKtag:www.votecitizens.org,2013-04-30:6348963:BlogPost:432872013-04-30T19:30:07.000ZJerry l.
The decision to run for public office should not be taken lightly. Below is a list of serious questions that all potential candidates (local, state or national level) should consider before making the commitment to run for office. The potential candidate should take the time to carefully consider each question and weigh the pros and cons of such an important decision. The potential candidate should also seek the opinion of their spouse and family and discuss how running for office would impact all of them. It is important that the potential candidate's decision to run for office would be supported by their family.

Serious questions that should be considered before making the decision to run for public office.

1. Do I want the Job?

2. Do I know what I want to do with the Job?

3. Can I take the time to run for office and work, take classes, etc.?

4. Is this the right time?

5. Can I take the name-calling, lies and gossip?

6. Can I win this election?

7. Can I afford to lose?

8. Can I afford to win (if taking a pay cut)?

9. Can I raise enough money?

10. Can I do this to my family?

If you are thinking about running for office in 2014 or 2016 then you should begin considering these questions immediately. A successful campaign demands that you make a decision and begin constructing the groundwork of your campaign very soon. It is too late to start your campaign only 1 year out from the election date. We encourage you to begin the process now. Consider the above questions first. If you are still thinking about running after taking the time to carefully answer the questions above, then contact us and we can discuss it further.

Any Questions?

Why American does'nt get involved in Syria for humanitarian reasons as they said they did for Libya?

Libya's oil deposits produce some of the finest crude which is the primary source for Europeans. Syria produces about 400K bbls of oil per day compared to 1600K bbls for Libya.
Why America declared war on Iraq stating it was for humanitarian reasons?

Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Information Administration (EIA) figures claiming that the territory of Iraq contains over 112 billion barrels (bbl) of proven reserves—oil that has been definitively discovered and is expected to be economically producible. In addition, since Iraq is the least explored of the oil-rich countries, there have been numerous claims of huge undiscovered reserves there as well—oil thought to exist, and expected to become economically recoverable—to the tune of hundreds of billions of barrels. http://www.brookings.edu/research/papers/2003/05/12globalenvironment-luft/

Why did America go into Afghanistan?

COINCIDENCE OR CORRUPTION?

There is some evidence that America could have had an economic motive for replacing the government in Afghanistan. Did this influence America's decision to invade Afghanistan and replace the government? The evidence presented below may be sufficient to raise serious questions about the motivations behind U.S. President Bush's decision to invade Afghanistan, especially in light of Bush's substantial links with the oil industry. Furthermore, recent reports indicate that the September the 11th disaster, which triggered the "war on terror" military campaign, could have been prevented. If there is enough public support, we will issue a formal request for a public statement from the American government. In the meantime, we invite you to consider the evidence below and form your own opinions.

IN 1998 AMERICA WANTED NEW GOVERNMENT IN AFGHANISTAN TO ALLOW CONSTRUCTION OF OIL PIPELINE

America has wanted a new government in Afghanistan since at least 1998, three years before the attacks on 11 September 2001. The official report from a meeting of the U.S. Government's foreign policy committee on 12 February 1998, available on the U.S. Government website, confirms that the need for a West-friendly government was recognised long before the War on Terror that followed September 11th: "The U.S. Government's position is that we support multiple pipelines... The Unocal pipeline is among those pipelines that would receive our support under that policy. I would caution that while we do support the project, the U.S. Government has not at this point recognized any governing regime of the transit country, one of the transit countries,
Afghanistan, through which that pipeline would be routed. But we do
support the project."

[ U.S. House of Reps., "U.S. Interests in the Central Asian Republics", 12 Feb 1998 ]

"The only other possible route [for the desired oil pipeline] is across, Afghanistan which has of course its own unique challenges."

Looks like their imaginary boundaries are moving even farther east… Over 50 U.S. airbases…insane…and this was in 2008! Remember, the U.S. is Israeli Zionism’s puppet so you can pretty much count that Israeli territory in the making in a sense. The US and Israel have become one and the same. Just ask a fundamentalist Zionist Christian who’s proud to send American youth to die for this mythical cause. How bamboozled can you get. And Iran is clearly in the way…. Let’s see how the U.S. was positioned even then to wage war on Iran. The days are counting down.

U.S. military bases circa 2008. Imagine now, plus the US Fleet.. Is “Greater Israel” just Another Smokescreen Justification? http://www.zengardner.com/the-zionist-drive-for-greater-israel/ http://www.thedebate.org/thedebate/afghanistan.asp

[ "U.S. Interests in the Central Asian Republics", 12 Feb 1998 ]

"CentGas can not begin construction until an internationally recognized Afghanistan Government is in place." [ "U.S. Interests in the Central Asian Republics", 12 Feb 1998 ]

The Afghanistan oil pipeline project was finally able to proceed in May 2002.This could not have happened if America had not taken military action to replace the government in Afghanistan.

THE CONQUEST OF AFGHANISTAN BEGAN BEFORE 9/11

The war on Afghanistan was sold to the public as a reaction to the attacks on 11 September 2001. However, the war was planned before the infamous 9/11 disaster, and the military action began long before the World Trade Center fell.

The conquest of Afghanistan had been planned since at least 12 February 1998, and 9/11 happened just in time to secure public support for the attacks.

TIMELINE

3rd November 1998 - attacks stop US oil pipeline:

Up to 80 cruise missiles were fired at Afghanistan and Sudan in August An American-funded training project in Afghanistan has closed down as a result of the US cruise missile attack on the country in August. The programme was funded by the American oil company, Unocal, which was once hoping to be involved in building a gas pipeline across the country from Turkmenistan to Pakistan.

BBC News, "US attack closes US project", 3 November 1998.

2nd January 1999 - US strikes targets in Afghanistan:

No sooner had the Taleban won a series of victories in the north, than the US launched an attack on camps in Afghanistan run by Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden, who had allegedly masterminded the bombing of US embassies in East Africa.

BBC News, "Afghanistan: Campaign of conflict", 2 January 1999.

15th March 2001 - allies invade Afghanistan:

India is believed to have joined Russia, the USA and Iran in a concerted front against Afghanistan's Taliban regime. Military sources in Delhi, claim that the opposition Northern Alliance's capture of the strategic town of Bamiyan, was precipitated by the four countries' collaborative effort. Janes International Security News, "India joins anti-Taliban coalition", 15 March 2001.

3rd September 2001 - allies deploy huge task-force for “fictional” conflict:

The aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious has sailed from Portsmouth to lead the biggest Royal Navy and Royal Marine deployment since the Falklands. HMS Illustrious is the flagship of three groups of warships travelling to the Middle East to take part in exercise "Saif Sareea 2". More than 24 surface ships from Britain, plus two nuclear submarines, will be completing the 13,000 mile round trip. The operation, costing nearly £100m, will end with a major excercise before Christmas that will also involve the Army, Royal Air Force and Armed Forces of Oman. The strike force has been put together to take part in a conflict between the fictional forces of the so-called state of 'Alawham' and those of Oman.

BBC News, Carrier heads for the Middle East, 3 September 2001.

11th September 2001 - the war comes home to America:

*** 9/11 ***

16th March 2001 - Bush prepares America to wage war overseas:

“I want to remind the American people that the prime suspect's [Osama Bin Laden] organisation is in a lot of countries,” Mr Bush told reporters on the White House lawn. BBC News, "America widens 'crusade' on terror", 16 September 2001.

18th September 2001 - diplomat reveals 9/11 “response” began before 9/11:

A former Pakistani diplomat has told the BBC that the US was planning military action against Osama Bin Laden and the Taleban even before last week's attacks. Niaz Naik, a former Pakistani Foreign Secretary, was told by senior American officials in mid-July that military action against Afghanistan would go ahead by the middle of October. Mr Naik said US officials told him of the plan at a UN-sponsored international contact group on Afghanistan which took place in Berlin. ... The wider objective, according to Mr Naik, would be to topple the Taleban regime and install a transitional government of moderate Afghans in its place - possibly under the leadership of the former Afghan King Zahir Shah. Mr Naik was told that Washington would launch its operation from bases in Tajikistan, where American advisers were already in place. He was told that Uzbekistan would also participate in the operation and that 17,000 Russian troops were on standby. Mr Naik was told that if the military action went ahead it would take place before the snows started falling in Afghanistan, by the middle of October at the latest. BBC News, "US 'planned attack on Taleban'", 18 September 2001. http://www.thedebate.org/thedebate/afghanistan.asp

In the nation about 760 kilograms of food is wasted by each person in a year. The country spends about $1billion per year just to dispose the foods that are wasted. According to Environmental Protection Agency, food leftovers are the single-largest part of the waste flow by weight in the U.S. The food waste in the country includes uneaten food and food preparation scraps from residences, commercial establishments like restaurants, institutional cafeterias etc

Among the strange things of this world, nothing seems more strange than that men pursuing happiness should knowingly quit the right and take a wrong road, and frequently do what their judgments neither approve nor prefer. John Jay 1774 2.We perceive that a great breach has been made in moral and physical systems by the introduction of moral and physical evil; how or why, we know not; so, however, it is, and it certainly seems proper that this breach should be closed and order restored. John Jay 1774 3. If man, in his present state appears to be a degraded creature; his best gold is mixed with dross, and his best motives are very far from being pure and free from earth and impurity. John Jay 1774 4. It certainly is very desirable that a pacific disposition should prevail among all nations. John Jay 1816 5.
1. There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty. John Adams 1772 2. A constitution of government once changed from freedom, can never be restored, liberty, once lost, is lost forever. John Adams 1772 3. Statesmen,my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into the people in a greater measure then they have it now. They may change rulers and forms of government, but they will not obtain lasting liberty. They will only exchange tyrants and tyrannies. John Adams 1776 4.There is nothing which i dread so much as division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our constitution. John Adams 1780 5. I pray heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this house, and all that shall here after inhabit it. May none but honest and wise men ever rule under this roof. And he was meaning the White House. Four thousand Americans, and well over 200 thousand innocent civilians, call collateral damage so far. Do not tell the anti-Christian people this, the will have the floor removed by going to the Supreme Court. My, most important point about the “truth shall set you free,” is it really works. However, and unfortunately, the truth is seldom used by those that do not want truth, nor take the time to check the facts. When, the internet became our primary source of communication, it was used for both good, and bad. It’s a tool for verifying, and cross checking facts, if a person cares about the truth or facts. In a matter of milliseconds, a person can send around the world, factual information based on checking reliable sources; or they can send propaganda, lies and misinformation. What is sad is that in America, people love and prefer to share negative things they hear about others, than the positive. There are so many perfect examples of lies, misinformation, and propaganda. It is very prevalent in the political arena.

So Let me start a rumor: “Most young students, would rather have their parents pay for their college, than work for they tuition. What makes it so convincing, is including the “89.33% percent, that I just randomly picked, and add a title with credential behind the name, and you have a high percent that will take this statement as fact, and run with it.

It was America at the forefront of the industrial revolution. It was America who showed the world how to mass produce everything from automobiles to televisions to airplanes. Any great nation throughout the world has to keep making thing to have a strong economy. So if the United States continues to allow its manufacturing base to erode at a staggering pace, how in the world can the United States continue to consider itself a economic power or a great nation. We have created the biggest debt in our country history in an effort to maintain a high standard of living, but at this current rate it's not sustainable. Every single month America goes into more debt and every single month America gets poorer. The deindustrialization of the United State should be a top concern for every man, woman and child living in the country. But sadly, most Americans don't have any idea what is going on with America today. So how many more once great manufacturing cities have to become rotting type zones, before we understand that we are committing economic suicide? Wake up America this is a national crisis and it needs to be treated like one.
First, let me say that I am a new member. As I've grown older (I'm 32 now), I have started to care more and more and the Politics of our country and how they affect me and my family. Especially since things seem to be so bad. I entered adulthood with Clinton as our President, and enjoyed all the comforts of a great economy.

When I was 23 (2002), I owned my own business, made very good money, and, never cared too much about who was running our country. Then Bush took over, and like most Americans, I didn't see how bad he was until it was too late. I regrettably voted for him in both elections. Sure- he wasn't the smartest guy in the room, but my business was doing great (now I realize that was largely because he formed policy to pretty much let the banks do anything they wanted, which led to the housing boom, and crisis) and he seemed to care about my conservative values.

I sold my business in 2008, foreseeing the economic perils right around the corner. And for that, I am truly blessed. I remember thinking at the time, 'how can the value of my home go from $178,000 to $399,000 in four years??' When a friend of mine, who was not the most responsible person in the world- quitting jobs all the time and never saving a dime- was given a loan for $350,000 to buy a house with no money down, I knew it was going to end badly for our economy.

So, I used the money I made on the business to move and go back to school and get my degree without having to work at all for three years. The first time I tried to get a degree I was 18 and had to work full-time while attending college, which didn't work out that well. Well... that and the fact that I was young and dumb. I feel that it's best for our youth to take time off after high-school before attending college, but that thought is for another blog post.

I was fortunate to land a career two months after graduation, a sweet work from home IT deal. Ironic thing is, I am actually a little anti-technology. I might log onto Facebook once a month. I don't communicate by email with family and friends very much at all (I prefer talking on the phone, or conversating in person). I don't have a smartphone or a Twitter account. I feel technology is great, but just like anything else in life, moderation is key. But that those thoughts are also for another blog post.

I am not materialistic, I always preach life is about experience, not how many things you own. I'd rather go on a cruise than buy a new TV.

I believe that we as parents should educate our kids and think of our school system as supplementary, instead of the other way around.

Microsoft Word has weakened my spelling and grammar, the same way no gravity in space weakens astronauts muscles, so please look past the grammatical error here or there. Thank God for the spell checker.

I'm going to use this medium to vent, gripe, enlighten, and hopefully make someone think. I watch/listen to various media outlets from both sides including the Daily Show, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, MSNBC, etc... I am moderate and feel that we should not marry ourselves to any Party's ideological views. So, about once a week I'm going to post some thoughts about Politics. If you like what you read, let me know. If you don't, then don't read it.

For my first rant:

China, or any other country or company, are now allowed to buy a candidate. And no one, not even the candidate themselves, has to tell you. This is now the law. It came in the form of a Supreme Court ruling about two years ago. Political Action Committees or PACs don't have to disclose where they get the donations. If you watch the Colbert Report, then you probably already know what I'm writing about. Most people don't really understand what it really means though, so let me tell you.

First, let's start with a fundamental marketing fact. For the most part, the more money pump into advertising, the more product you will sell. If this wasn't true, then why would companies have such huge budgets for marketing. Now, you also have to have a product that meets the need of the consumer, a price that shows value, advertising that is viewed by a lot of people, quality advertising, etc.... But everything being equal, if Coke spends a billion dollars on advertising and Pepsi only spends a million, more Coke will be bought. It's that simple, and companies know it. That is because the average person is affected subliminally a lot more than they realize. For some reason, if we see something more, we think about it more. If we see something more, the more we believe it. And most advertising is not to introduce a new product, it is to reinforce the products they already offer.

For example, I like Bud Light, and I buy Bud Light. I know Bud Light will be there at the store, and I will buy it even if I never see a Bud Light commercial again in my life. But, if Coors Light plays 30 commercials during the football game, I go to the store and think, 'maybe I'll give Coors Light a try today.' It's that way with all of us. In a sense we are all sheep to marketing departments. Politicians know it too.

In most cases, the candidate who pumps the most money in advertising will win the election. I don't have stats to back that up, but I'd bet anything on it. If it weren't true, then why would any political candidate spend so much on it. So, money can buy a win, especially if a candidate spends a huge amount more than their opponent. We hear so much negative publicity from political ads, that we inherently think one side is lying. What if they both are lying? What if the ads could lie and the candidate claim it's not a message from them in the first place. 'I am in no way affiliated with the PACs that paid for that message, so it's not my fault.'

That may seem bad enough for a democratic process, but also consider this: What if those PACs can take contributions from anyone (and when I mean anyone, I mean any person, company, country, etc...) and not be forced to disclose who contributed? You see, in the past, it has been legal to give money to politicians, but the country could see you were doing it.

So, for example, if GM was to give money to Bush, and Bush was to back a bill to give tax breaks for GM cars, opponents could use that ploy against Bush, questioning his ethics- killing his chances of being elected or re-elected (well, in this example, I would hope he's get impeached). But what may also happen is that people may stop buying GM cars because they attempted to influence a candidate. Before, companies didn't put money in politicians campaigns because they didn't want the backlash of losing consumers. When I owned a company, I would never give to any politician for fear that the clients would see that, and if they didn't like the party of politicians I gave money to, then they might not hire my company. The system would force companies to stay out of the political arena. Now, I'm sure some companies found loopholes to still influence the system (nothing is perfect), but the say things were set up made some sense.

So, in conclusion, any entity can donate money, discreetly, to any politician's PAC. The more money the PAC receives, the more it can spend on marketing the candidate. The more marketing, the more people hear the message (which may also just be a lie, because candidates aren't technically delivering the message themselves), the more people hear the message the more they believe it, and we get Romney winning at the poles. The will of the government, which used to be highly influenced by the demand of the people, is now more influenced by whoever gives money to the PACs.

We could just vote out any politician who takes money from sources we don't like, or not buy the services of the source. But we don't even know who the sources of the funding come from! What if the Chinese government gave 10 billion dollars to the PAC backing someone they selected to run for President. Would that person get elected? My heart hopes the answer would be 'no', but my brain tells me that it may be happening right now. And, or course, that person would enact policy that would help China, not the American people.

What if an oil company gave billions to a PAC backing a candidate to ensure that they can relax safety standards at off shore drilling sites to save money. That candidate could make that happen and us Americans would never know that politician was influenced by the oil company at all. I sense this is happening routinely right now and it needs to stop.

Nancy Polosi is trying to get the 'Disclosure Act' signed to stop this. We need to follow this and make sure it happens.
Tariffs: The Smoot-Hawley Fairy Taletag:www.votecitizens.org,2012-01-22:6348963:BlogPost:359142012-01-22T20:11:52.000ZMike Griffinhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/MikeGriffin

Below is a copy of U.S. GDP from 1929 through 1939. These are official government figures from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

For the chart below: GDP: 1929-1938 only

The Trade Balance is underlined in red. Exports are underlined in blue. Imports are underlined in orange.

Notice that there is a slight decline in both exports and imports by the end of 1930. The trade balance remained around 0 during the entire time. Exports bottomed in 1932 — 2 years before any revision or modification of Smoot-Hawley occurred.

The Smoot-Hawley Tariff was signed into law on June 17, 1930, and raised U.S. tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods. Legislation was passed in 1934 that weakened the effect of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff. In effect, the legislation functionally repealed Smoot-Hawley. Thus, the effects of Smoot-Hawley cover only the period between June 17, 1930, and 1934. This is the time frame that should be focused on.

So in reviewing the chart, where is the evidence that the Smoot-Hawley Tariff caused major damage to the economy?? Is there any at all?

The US was already in a Depression. Prior to Smoot-Hawley, the 1929 Trade Surplus was +0.38% of our GDP.

Let's focus on exports alone. Exports were $5.9 billion in 1929, and had declined to $2.9 billion in 1933. This $3 billion decline was roughly 3.8% of our 1929 GDP, which had declined by a whopping 46% over the same period of time. Thus, of the -46% GDP decline, only -3.8% of it was due to a fall in exports.

But the gain from import reduction must also be included. (A decline in imports increases GDP). If the import decline is added back to the GDP total (to measure the net trade balance), the "loss" was only $0.2 billion from our GDP — or less than ½ of 1% of the total GDP decline.

In other words, the document-able "loss" from the Smoot-Hawley Tariff — the "net export" loss — was less than ½ of 1% of our our GDP decline.

To put this in perspective, let's compare all the GDP components together:

1929 .......................................................... 1933

GDP $103.6 billion-------------------> $56.4 billion (change: -$47.2 billion)
Consum. Expend $77.4 bil------------>$45.9 billion (change: -$31.5 bill)
Private Invest $16.5 bil----------------> $1.7 billion (change: -$14.8 billion)
Trade Balance +$0.3 bil-------------> +$0.1 billion (change: -$0.2 billion)
Exports $5.9 billion--------------------> $2.0 billion (change: -$3.9 billion)
Imports $5.6 billion--------------------> $1.9 billion (change: -$3.7 billion)

Again, at the risk of being repetitious, how much difference to US GDP did the export loss make? The Trade Balance worsened by only -$0.2 billion, or about -0.19% of our 1929 GDP, or less than 1/5th of 1% of 1929 GDP. Meanwhile, our total GDP decreased a whopping -46%.

How much effect did a 1/5th of 1% loss of GDP have on the Great Depression, especially when spread over a 4-year period?

From the actual statistics, the true "harm" caused by the Smoot-Hawley is fictional. The harmful effects exist only in the minds of self-serving Globalist propagandists.

Based on available statistics, Smoot-Hawley had almost NO effect on the Great Depression. At the very most, it caused a -3.8% decline in GDP from loss of exports. But factoring in the GDP increase from a decline in imports, it caused less than 1% of the GDP decline.

The Smoot-Hawley Tariff did not cause the Great Depression, nor did it worsen it or extend it. Claims to the contrary are false and easily refutable. The evidence to disprove those claims is abundant, overwhelming, and freely available to the public. The available GDP numbers completely exonerate the Smoot-Hawley Tariff from any contribution to the Great Depression.

The Smoot-Hawley myth needs to be put to rest, once and for all. The claim that it worsened the Great Depression is nothing but a fairy tale.
"Pew Poll: Two-Thirds See Rich vs. Poor Conflict NewsMax.com"tag:www.votecitizens.org,2012-01-13:6348963:BlogPost:354012012-01-13T00:49:53.000ZCharles Earl Harveyhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/CharlesEarlHarvey

They really needed a poll to see If there is a clash between, "Main Street," and Wealthy
Street. I wonder if the Roman Empire did brilliant polls like this before their fall. So, let's look and why 72% of America population, that being the "middle class,“that has been ignored by their Government, for decades. Just a few of why the "middle class," could make them upset. 1. 535 members of congress control 300 million Americans. 2. During the recession, Members of Congress worth, gained 23%, with over 250 members of Congress being millionaires. However, on "Main Street," USA, the lost 16% during the recession, 3. Congress has been lying since Reagan that allowing less taxes, and tax breaks, for the “upper class, including the “One Percent,” will create jobs for Main Street The opposite has happen, less jobs, high unemployment, and more money for the rich. 4, lied to American why we were involved in 2 wars, And other conflicts in the Middle East. 5. The President, and Congress, cause several thousand American, to die, buy going after the Terrorist in a fill scale invasions in the Middle East, leaving
Iraq, and Afghanistan, worst now. We brought the enemies to these Countries,
causing millions of civilian’s displacements; and over 300,000 civilian deaths. But our government coined a catchy term, "Nation Building," That does not include America, thank God! Have you taken a good look at the
results of our governments "Nation Building," in the Middle East? 6. The give Trillions of dollars to Muslim/Islamic Countries for over a decade. 7. The wealthy that control the Media and Congress. They do not afford Media coverage for the unhealthy, "middle class, “presidential candidates, as the do the "upper class politicians. There is. Nothing in our Constitution that says, we have to be governed by the "upper class." 8. Not taking part of the trillions, to bail out Wall Street, and making low interest loans to American home owners, to save a few million homes, however, our government loaned banks like, Bank of America, $80 Billion, at 03.33 percent interest. The same bank that wanted to raise ATM Service charges. The banks are sitting on trillions of dollars, and not putting it into "Main Street USA. There are another 20, or more reasons, I could list, but I do not want to over load you, and cause you to go into a deeper depression, than you are now. I will sum up with the reason the wealthy are mad at the “Lower Classes."
1. "Middle class” wants them to spend Money to help America.
2.They want to keep their money, and continue to live, the life style they are accustomed too. Mitt Romney's, quote in 2011. "We love in the Greatest county in the World."
