Can anyone explain why it is so hard for a independent candidate to have their name added to the ballot in November?

Hi all,

I recently joined based not only on my disillusionment with the two major parties but also because I find the platform close to my own positions- certainly closer than other party platforms. Sure, we all probably have some differing opinions, but to find a party platform that is more than 50% in agreement with my own is very encouraging.

Hi all,

I recently joined based not only on my disillusionment with the two major parties but also because I find the platform close to my own positions- certainly closer than other party platforms. Sure, we all probably have some differing opinions, but to find a party platform that is more than 50% in agreement with my own is very encouraging.

What is not encouraging is the tiny number of members and the age of the last posts here on the discussion board. I don't consider myself political by any means, but seriously, this is not going to get a whole lot of people involved. ::yawn:: Surely someone has something to say...or have I just not discovered where all the activity is? For one thing, I don't do social network sites, so if that's where it's all happening, you're losing a fairly large demographic that really doesn't get into that. Again, maybe my perusings of the web site haven't taken me to the right place.

Also, I'm not sure what "approval" of new members is all about, but I would suggest a more open forum, similar to most on the Internet- register and you're in. Yes, you'll get trolls, etc., but if you're going to deal in politics, you better get used to that. It took me over a week to get approved, so why not just skip that step and let people interact right away?

Somewhere else here I read about fielding a presidential candidate. Are you kidding? Local or even state candidates make more sense to get started. Even PTA. I counted about 525 members here. $65 million minimum for a presidential campaign, and there's barely money to pay for the server? Again, am I missing something?

I'd be happy just to have some spirited discourse with like-minded voters. Maybe this will engender a reply--hopefully not just crickets. :)

With all the discussion about the roll out of Obamacare, I was curious what folks think about whether it will work, whether we can pay for it, etc. I am in favor of universal care, but I am concerned that the current plan does nothing to control costs. It is almost a blank check to the healthcare industry with no way to control costs. I would be in favor of the government directly providing healthcare to the uninsured through government operated clinics and hospitals. I think this would…

It is almost a blank check to the healthcare industry with no way to control costs. I would be in favor of the government directly providing healthcare to the uninsured through government operated clinics and hospitals. I think this would be more likely to keep costs down while still providing care to all. What are your thoughts?
social securitytag:www.votecitizens.org,2013-10-27:6348963:Topic:541352013-10-27T16:05:06.661ZERNEST G. SYCHhttp://www.votecitizens.org/profile/ERNESTGSYCH

Probably the only platform item in the Citizen's Party that I have concern about is support of social security. While I support a government mandated retirement provision, I do not think the current pyramid scheme works. The obvious first step in fixing the system is stopping the pyramid scheme now.

While I support a government mandated retirement provision, I do not think the current pyramid scheme works. The obvious first step in fixing the system is stopping the pyramid scheme now.

My proposal would be to eliminate the pyramid scheme for those entering the workforce now (e.g., those 22 or younger), and replace it (for them only) with a mandatory retirement account. The worker would be able to choose an individually directed investment account with no government guarantee, or a government guaranteed account earning interest at the U.S. bond rate. The government would keep the accounts for the benefit of the worker, and would not be authorized to use it for any other person or purpose. The account would be paid out after retirement in monthly installments up to 5, 10, or 15 years, but when the funds are gone, the benefit ceases. The account would not be alienable, and the amount remaining after death of the worker would be given to his/her survivors.

After stopping the pyramid scheme for new workers, we can turn to figuring out how to pay the current benefits, which are entitlements.

I think most Amercians agree that the biggest issue with our politician (Dems and Reps) today is their lavish wages and benefits that put any executive's wages to shame! Through federal wages and benefits (FERS), these politicians have made it a priority to place their own intrest above moving this country foward. We must remember that these politicians are elected officials and not government employees, so why do they get much better benefits than a military vet that risked life and limb…

Through federal wages and benefits (FERS), these politicians have made it a priority to place their own intrest above moving this country foward. We must remember that these politicians are elected officials and not government employees, so why do they get much better benefits than a military vet that risked life and limb for our country. In addition, in this day in age when our country's defecit is at it's highest and the average working citizen pays more towards their benefits, while these politician's benefits keep getting bigger and more lavish! Citizen's Party must look into this and make it part of it's platform to stop self serving politicians from abusing tax payers' money!!!
